Liposuction for Men: Treating Chest Fat and a Double Chin
Men often train hard and still keep two stubborn areas: a soft, rounded chest and fullness under the chin that blurs the jawline. Both are common reasons men look into liposuction. The operation can work well in the right cases, but the chest in particular has a catch: not all of that volume is fat. This guide explains what liposuction can do for these two areas, how candidates are assessed, and what preparation and recovery involve at a clinic in Moscow.
Chest fat or gland tissue?
Enlarged male breasts, known as gynecomastia, can be made of fat, of firm glandular tissue behind the nipple, or of a mix of both. The distinction matters because liposuction removes fat. City Medical Centre lists the male chest among its liposuction areas specifically for the fat component of gynecomastia.
Fatty enlargement tends to feel soft and spread evenly across the chest, often alongside extra weight elsewhere. Glandular tissue feels firmer and sits directly behind the areola. Many men have some of each, and only an examination, sometimes with an ultrasound, shows the proportion.
Hormones also play a role. The clinic orders hormonal screening before liposuction, with an endocrinologist ruling out hormonal causes. For the chest that step is especially relevant, because medicines, anabolic steroids or hormonal disorders can drive breast growth in men. Treating the cause first prevents the problem from coming back after surgery.
If the examination shows a large glandular component, ask the surgeon how it would be addressed and what result liposuction alone can realistically give.
Under the chin: when the jawline is hidden by fat
Fullness under the chin can come from fat, loose skin, the position of the jaw, or a combination. Liposuction of the chin and neck, listed by the clinic among its treatment areas, removes the fat layer and can bring back a clearer angle between jaw and neck.
It works best when the skin still has good elasticity, which is more common in younger men. If the skin is already loose, removing fat alone may leave it hanging rather than tightening it. In that situation a surgeon may suggest a different approach, and it is better to hear that before surgery than to be disappointed after it.
Weight matters too. Liposuction is not a weight-loss method: it removes local fat that resists diet and exercise. A man who plans to lose a lot of weight will usually be advised to do that first, so that the result is not lost or distorted by later changes.
Bring photos in profile and describe what bothers you most, whether it is the side view, photos taken from below or the fit of shirt collars.
How the procedure is planned and carried out
Two techniques are used at City Medical Centre. Tumescent liposuction introduces a saline solution with lidocaine and adrenaline that loosens fat and constricts vessels before suction. VASER uses ultrasound to break up fat cells first and is used for athletic definition and delicate areas, which makes it relevant for the chest and the neck.
Anaesthesia is local or general depending on the scope. Small areas take around an hour, and combined areas can take three to four hours. With local anaesthesia patients go home three to four hours later; with general anaesthesia they stay one day in hospital. Punctures are 3 to 7 mm and usually need no stitches, which suits visible areas such as the neck.
Several areas can be treated in one operation, so men sometimes combine the chest with the flanks or abdomen. The listed prices at the time of writing (October 2026) start from $1,400 for flanks and waist and from $1,700 for the abdomen; the cost for the chest and chin is set after the examination. The male chest and chin liposuction options are described on the clinic's page with the full list of areas.
Before surgery: tests and practical steps
Preparation is the same as for other liposuction, with the hormonal screening mentioned above. The clinic's test list includes a full blood count, coagulation, biochemistry, infection screening, an ECG and a chest X-ray, with a GP check if needed. The tests can be done at the clinic.
Stop blood-thinning medicines, alcohol and smoking seven to ten days before the operation, after agreeing any medicine changes with the doctor who prescribed them. The last meal is eight hours before surgery.
Tell the surgeon honestly about sports supplements and any use of anabolic steroids, past or present. This is directly relevant to chest enlargement and to anaesthesia. If you have recently gained or lost a lot of weight, mention that too, since it affects both the plan and the timing.
Liposuction is for patients aged 18 and over. Contraindications include severe chronic or mental illness and serious heart, kidney or liver disease. Temporary ones include acute infections, skin inflammation in the area and the use of anticoagulants.
Recovery and keeping the result
After chest or chin liposuction a compression garment is worn for four to six weeks: a vest for the chest, a chin strap for the neck. It controls swelling and helps the skin adapt to the new contour. For the first seven days, avoid exertion and heavy lifting. Sauna, pool and active sport wait four to six weeks, and alcohol and tanning beds at least a month.
Most men return to work and their usual routine within seven to ten days. Swelling and bruising resolve by weeks four to five. First changes are visible after about two weeks, an interim result at six to eight weeks, and the final contour at three to six months.
Removed fat cells do not come back, but the remaining ones can grow if you gain weight, so stable weight and regular training protect the result. The surgeon stays in touch during recovery, which matters when you are at home in another country. Men in England can also look at the liposuction page for patients from Manchester. Start with a free consultation and photos, and let the examination decide what your chest or chin really needs.
